Identity is a construct. Or is it? No generation prior to the current time has been as fascinated and as cognizant of identity as we are in today's society. What is our identity as people? What if we need to affirm our own identity in a different way than that which was assigned to us at birth? What does God feel about a transition of gender? About a renunciation of any gender? In a spiritual acknowledgment of identity, what is our identity as Christians? In this episode of Theologically Speaking, Father Davies and Kyle go deep in exploring what is our relationship to the concept of identity as Christians. And Father Davies flips the script a bit and asks Kyle, the millennial, to help identify some of the labels that are being thrown around in today's vernacular.

In the second part of our discussion of sin, we explore the other side of sin, the good news. There is good news in sins forgiven at the cross. We go into what it means to have atonement, what it means to pray privately for our own sins, and what it means to confess our sins to a priest. We also talk about the principle of "All May, Some Should, None Must."

March 15, 2020. The date the world changed. It was also the day that St. Thomas the Apostle, Hollywood, along with all other churches in the world, had to decide what's next. The lights were turned off and the doors were locked. And everyone went home to wait. Knowing that people would need spiritual food during these trying and uncertain times, the Rector turned on his camera and began to pray. In time, St. Thomas the Apostle would set the gold standard for capturing the intimacy of celebrating the Mass while reaching the online masses. This is the story of how the church carried on and of the surprising ways the liturgy touched new people all around the world.

We have reached the finale of season 2! Our examination of the church calendar is coming to a close with everything that comes after Eastertide. Fr. Davies and Kyle talk about the continued habits that one could keep throughout the year during "ordinary time." They also discuss the behavioral advantages of the church calendar being arranged as it is. From Advent to Easter, Christians are observing, fasting, and praying at break-neck speeds, and now it is time to slow down, reflect on the spiritual food that we have been given during the first 6 months of the year, and put it to use on a more deeply personal journey until we come to the beginning again.
